Guy Cravatta Admits to Using Banned Substance; Receives 4-Year Sanction

If you read the headline, you are probably asking the question, “Who the heck is Guy Cravatta?”

Well, Guy Cravatta is a Masters athlete who has competed in the 55-59 year-old division the past two seasons. It appears that Cravatta trains at The Box CrossFit Training Gym in Sullivan, Illinois.

In 2024, Cravatta placed 3rd in the Age Group Semifinal, qualifying him for the 2024 Masters CrossFit Games.

In fact, on May 30, Cravatta shared on Instagram that it was official. He was going to the CrossFit Games. In his caption, he shared, “My hard work has finally paid off.”

But Cravatta never competed at the 2024 Masters CrossFit Games in Birmingham, Alabama. That’s because on June 27, 2024, Cravatta admitted that he used exogenous testosterone during the out-of-competition drug testing period.

Cravatta’s appeal was denied and has received a four-year sanction beginning on June 27, 2024.

It is unclear the circumstances behind Cravatta’s admission and subsequent sanction. Unlike other sanctions, CrossFit’s announcement does not state that he submitted a sample that tested positive for a banned substance.

It may be a situation where he was notified that he was going to be drug tested, declined and then admitted he used a banned substance.

As for why he was selected, CrossFit has an email address that individuals can contact with allegations against individuals, affiliates or teams that are violating the CrossFit Games Drug Policy.
