It’s been almost six years since we saw Lukas Hogberg at the CrossFit Games. But could we see the 5-time CrossFit Games veteran back on the competition floor in Albany, New York?
Yesterday, Lukas Hogberg accepted a wildcard invite to compete at the Rebel Renegade Games, one of the In-Person Qualifying Events for the 2025 CrossFit Games season.
Hogberg has also registered for the 2025 CrossFit Open and submitted a score of 290 reps for 25.1, good for 822nd in the world. While he’s not near the top of the leaderboard (in comparison to other Games veterans), he is well within the top 1%.
The top 1% is currently 1,199 men. [Note: registration is still technically open and could bump that number up to 1,200 by the end of the Open]
It is unclear if Hogberg has his sights set for qualifying for the CrossFit Games this year or if he is looking to just get back on the competition floor. However, back in November Hogberg shared in an Instagram post, “I miss competing in CrossFit.”
And then more recently, Hogberg spoke about his appreciation for what CrossFit has given him. “I love CrossFit & I’m really thankful for all the joy & opportunities it have given me all these years, and still do🥹🫶🏻 and how much it helped so many people with their health😍❤️,” shared Hogberg in a post made earlier this year.
Hogberg competed in the CrossFit Open from 2012 through 2022. After taking two years off, he’s back on the leaderboard. Hogberg also qualified for the CrossFit Games five times between 2014 and 2019. His best finish was 3rd place in 2018.
As for the Rebel Renegade Games, the IPQE is limiting participation to athletes who are citizens of Africa, UAE and the Gulf countries or live and train in those locations. Last week Sara Sigmundsdottir received a wildcard invite on the women’s side.
The Rebel Renegade Games are May 30 – June 1 at the Emerald Resort & Casino in Vanderbijlpark, South Africa. The top male and top female athlete will receive an invite to compete at the 2025 CrossFit Games.
