Oihana Moya is the first individual athlete to test positive for a banned substance during an in-competition drug test at the European Semifinal. Moya, who finished 14th at the Semifinal in Berlin, tested positive for Ostarine and metabolites of GW501516.
Moya is appealing the result. A request for comment from Moya was not immediately returned.
Following the official announcement by CrossFit, Moya did, however, take to Instagram to speak about the situation. Originally written in Spanish, the text below has been translated to English.
Moya via Instagram: This is the most difficult message I have ever written in my entire life. I am devastated because I am living a nightmare, and I feel frustration, despair, anger and sadness like never before.
A few days ago I received the message from Crossfit, where they told me that they had detected prohibited substances in the control that they did to us in semis.
Well, here comes the moment where many of the people who follow me will question my innocence just as I possibly would with other athletes.
My progression over the years has been very organic, enough to make me known as someone who has not “appeared out of nowhere.” And it is my fighting and honest character that has made me get to where I have come.
This is the truth, although sometimes reaching it and demonstrating it is the result of a long process. We are already in the hands of the lawyers and I trust that, in this case, we will soon be able to defend my innocence.
Those who I love the most and in whom I trust accompany me in this process, which is the most difficult I have faced in my entire sports career. I am afraid, but at the same time I have a clear conscience, since I know the truth and I am brave to prove it.
Thanks to all the people who support me and help me not to give up. I know that soon I will wake up from this nightmare.
The announcement marks the fourth failed drug to be announced from Semifinals this year. The previous three were all from the team competition, two of which stemming from the REBEL Renegade Games, host of the Africa Semifinal.
