Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr Has De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis Heading into 2024 CrossFit Open

Yesterday we reported that Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr was spotted wearing a brace on her left wrist over the weekend. Now, 24 hours later and Tia has shared why she is wearing a brace in her latest YouTube video.

In the video, Tia said she has a condition known as de Quervain’s tenosynovitis. It is also commonly called mother’s wrist or baby wrist. It is essentially an over-use injury with the tendons in the wrist becoming inflamed and irritated after picking up and holding a baby frequently.

Tia’s wrist became swollen recently and she is wearing the brace to help with reducing inflammation. With that, she said her training has shifted a bit as she has focused on more lower body work to reduce stress on her wrist. At one point Tia was unable to do a push-up do to the swelling.

With the season starting in two days, Tia said she is not concerned about her wrist but doesn’t want it to affect training deeper into the season. According to Cleveland Clinic, the recommended treatment is to wear a splint and rest the wrist for a few weeks to fully recover.
