Could Dave Castro be programming the World’s Toughest Mile for the 2026 CrossFit Games? If you were to read into the spectator workouts available for this year’s Games, the answer might be ‘yes’.
On Saturday, July 25, at 7:30am, spectators will be able to register for the World’s Toughest Mile. The spectator workout will be held right outside the SAP Center on Barack Obama Boulevard. The cost is free.

Details are limited and registration is not yet open, however, the ‘About’ section does recommend “bringing gloves/knee sleeves/wearing pants”.
For those unfamiliar with the World’s Toughest Mile, it is…
400m Burpee Broad Jumps
400m Walking Lunges
400m Bear Crawl
400m Run

Here’s why the World’s Toughest Mile might actually be part of the 2026 CrossFit Games programming…
For one, CrossFit has historically given spectators a chance to do the same workout as the Games athletes. Last year fans could attempt the Run Row Run event. In 2023, everyone ran the 5k on the same course the athletes ran it.
Outside of the Ruck Race League, all of the other spectator workouts are just labeled “Spectator CAP Workout”.
Second, last night on Boys Interrupted, Dave Castro said that individuals and teams will be doing events on Barack Obama Boulevard. On top of that, Castro shared that individuals and teams might go at the same time.
The World’s Toughest Mile is one that could handle 140 athletes at the same time (60 individuals and 80 team athletes).
And finally, the World’s Toughest Mile was created by individuals within the CrossFit community. Guido Trinidad, Eric Hinman and Wyatt Ewing created the new national event series, The World’s Toughest Mile.
Trinidad is the Owner of Peak 360 and was the founder of Wodapalooza. Hinman is a hybrid athlete who has competed in the CrossFit Open since 2015. And Ewing is the founder of Ice Barrel, a previous sponsor of the CrossFit Games.
So could the World’s Toughest Mile be the second endurance event of the 2026 CrossFit Games? Time will tell…but I wouldn’t be surprised.
