If you have been on Instagram this morning you probably know that Brent Fikowski has announced that he will be retiring from competition following the 2024 Rogue Invitational. Now, as he steps away from the competition floor, Fikowski will direct his focus on the Professional Fitness Athletes’ Association (PFAA) and improving the sport for future generations of athletes.
But with Fikowski ending his competitive career, I wanted to take a look back at his history of competing in the sport of CrossFit. And thanks to Barclay Dale and his database, we can do just that.
Brent Fikowski began his CrossFit career when he signed up for the 2013 CrossFit Open. The former volleyball player did not take long to become successful as he finished 130th in the world in his first Open and followed that up with a 6th place finish at the Australia Regional.
But while he quickly found success, making to the CrossFit Games would prove challenging. After moving to Canada for the 2014 season, Fikowski would narrowly miss qualifying for the CrossFit Games in 2014 and 2015, both in heartbreaking fashion.Â
In 2014, an 8th place finish on the final event would pave the way for Tyson Takasaki to move into 2nd place, just one point ahead of Fikowski. Only two athletes from the Canada West Regional earned an invite to the CrossFit Games that year.
And then in 2015, Fikowski entered the final event in 3rd place. The top 5 advanced to the Games. But Fikowski would take a 14th place finish, allowing Cole Sager, Kevin Simmons and Joe Scali to pass him in the final standings. Fikowski finished 6th overall, again missing the CrossFit Games by just one point.
2016 was finally Fikowski’s year. He left no doubt when he won the West Regional, beating Ben Stoneberg in 2nd place by 70 points. He followed that up by finishing 4th overall in his rookie debut at the CrossFit Games.
From there Fikowski never looked back. He qualified for the CrossFit Games nine consecutive years from 2016 to 2024. He finished on the podium three times with his best finish in 2017 where he took 2nd place. This past season, his final season, Fikowski finished in 3rd place.

Throughout most of his career, Fikowski avoided off-season competitions to focus on the upcoming CrossFit Games season. It was not until the 2022 ELFIT CrossFit Championship where he would compete as an individual in an off-season competition. He would go on to win the 2022 ELFIT competition.
Since then, he has competed at Dubai, TYR Wodapalooza and he made his first appearance at the Rogue Invitational in 2023. And now, a year later it will be his final competition.
In his 12 year career, Fikowski has won seven in-person individual competitions and finished on the podium 16 times. Fikowski was on the Canadian PB&J team that won the Elite Team division at the 2023 TYR Wodapalooza.Â
Fikowski also represented Team Canada at the 2016 and 2017 CrossFit Invitational.
