Sam Cournoyer to Make Another Run in 2026

Sam Cournoyer competed at the CrossFit Games for six consecutive years from 2019 through 2024, five times as an individual and once on the winning CrossFit Mayhem team (in 2022).

This past year Cournoyer did register for the CrossFit Open and gave the In-Affiliate Semifinals a run. However, he fell a little short of qualifying for the Games after finishing 17th.

Now, as we approach the turn of the calendar year, Cournoyer has shared that he’s gonna give it one more year on the competition floor. “I’m coming back because I want to finish this the right way. On my own terms,” shared Cournoyer.

He added, “I’ve given too much of my life to this sport to let the story end this way. I don’t want to be old one day, looking back and thinking, ‘You should’ve done it. You had one more in you.’ “

So Cournoyer will be back on the competition floor in 2026, giving it another shot. But where? That’s the question.

And it appears that Cournoyer doesn’t quite know. “Is it going to be [the] CrossFit Games or World Fitness Project, I still haven’t made my decision but before we start a new chapter, let’s finish this one the right way,” Cournoyer said.

If he goes the WFP route, he will have to make his way up through the Challenger ranks. Otherwise, the CrossFit Games’ path will likely see him at Syndicate Crown, Mayhem Classic or even the NorCal Classic.

Either way, keep an eye out for Sam over the next few months…
