If you have scrolled through comments on Gui Malheiros’ Instagram posts or watch the chat during a live stream when Gui is on screen, you have most likely seen lizard emojis over and over and over again. And while I had seen for quite some time, I never knew why the lizard emoji was used. I best guess is that it was some Brazilian thing.
This weekend Gui shared the back story behind the lizard emoji. It all started when Gui shared a joke years ago about a lizard and a koala.
Here’s the joke:
A lizard and a koala were using an illegal substance while hanging out near the top of a tree. They were vibing, getting high and everything.
The lizard then gets very thirsty when he turns to the koala and says, “Hey, bro, I’m thirsty. I need some water.”
The koala, who was so high, responded, “Bro, go to the river. Drink some water.”
At this point the lizard goes down the tree and goes to the river where he starts to drink some water. Then, an alligator comes and sees the lizard.
The alligator said, “Damn, bro, you’re high!”
The lizard has red eyes. He looks like he’s in another planet and drinking a lot of water.
So the alligator asked the lizard, “Where’d you get that? It looks good.”
To which the lizard responded, “Bro, the koala has some on top of that tree. Go get some. He’s very cool.”
So the alligator climbs the tree, reaches the koala and says, “What’s going on?”
At this point the koala was already in another planet. He turns to the alligator and says, “Damn! How much water did you drink, Bro!. What the heck?!”
So that’s the story. After Gui told that story years ago, his Brazilian fans began to use the lizard emoji to show their support for Gui.Â
