Earlier this week it was revealed that the World Fitness Project (WFP) was creating an affiliate program. That revelation was made after speaking with gym owners who had been contacted by members of the WFP to discuss the opportunity to affiliate with the new fitness league.
This morning, the WFP published a press release that provides some more details around this new program. Dubbed the Fitness Project Initiative, the “mission is rooted in growing and strengthening the fitness community.”
In the press release the WFP addressed why they are launching the Fitness Project Initiative, what the WFP is doing and how it will work.
As part of the launch, the WFP is looking to start with 50 affiliates called the Founding Fifty. These 50 affiliate owners “are the voice of the program.”Â
While exact details of Founding Fifty benefits were not laid out in the press release, the WFP did list several objectives to help their affiliates. These include community member engagement, profit sharing, buying power/cost savings and media exposure.
It does appear that group purchasing is one of the current major selling points. “We look to harness the strength behind a collective effort and use that leverage as a mega group purchaser. It will be a focus to bend the supply chain to the benefit of the businesses,” read the press release.
The press release also stated that Fitness Project Initiative is not an exclusive program, meaning gyms could continue to be affiliates of CrossFit, HYROX, Metfix or other programs.
The first Founding Fifty gym was announced yesterday. Redemption Fitness in Waukesha, Wisconsin, announced it has signed on to the Fitness Project Initiative. It is also a CrossFit affiliate.
While the press release did not disclose the cost to affiliate with the World Fitness Project, gym owners have told The Barbell Spin the cost is $2,000. Interested gyms can fill out a form to begin conversations with the WFP around becoming a Founding Fifty.
