If you’ve been scrolling through Instagram lately, might have seen athletes shooting something that resembles a pistol inside a gym. That device is called an ErgShoot and it shoots lasers, not bullets.
While ErgShoot has been around since 2023, it appears to be gaining some momentum in the CrossFit space as late. It has been featured in several competitions recently in addition to spectator experiences inside various vendor areas. Earlier this month the ErgShoot was part of the Belgrade Biathlon event at the Belgrade Games.
And this weekend the elite athletes competing in the TYR Cup will see the ErgShoot in The Ski Erg Shootout workout.
So what is the ErgShoot?
Well, you know how the Olympic Biathlon combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting?The ErgShoot mimics this sport in that it can be used in combination with other CrossFit movements.
And because it’s laser based it’s kind of like playing Duck Hunt on the old Nintendo gaming console, but with a high heart rate.
According to the ErgShoot website, “ErgShoot is a pioneering sport that fuses cardio endurance with precision shooting, testing strength, focus, and determination. More than just physical ability, it’s a game of strategy and tactics, challenging athletes of all levels to think, adapt, and compete.”
ErgShoot has partnered with several companies to enhance the overall experience. Their partnership with FIIT brings a digital platform to track competitions, structure workouts and enhance performance while its partnership with Concept2 integrates their erg equipment into ErgShoot competitions. And Pentashot ensures the laser technology is precise and reliable.
How much does the ErgShoot cost?
It ain’t cheap. I’m not sure how much I was expecting, but the cost to get started is $976 USD for the Pentashot bundle. This gets you one laser pistol, a target system and a mounting plate.
Additional ErgShoot pistols are $411 USD and the Pentashot Hit and Miss Target is $432 USD.
ErgShoot Affiliate Program?
Yes, ErgShoot appears to be rolling out an affiliate network later this year. Right now they are accepting applications for those who are interested in joining when the program becomes available.
It’s unclear what the ongoing cost will be, but the first 50 gyms will receive four free laser pistols and targets.
As for the affiliate benefits, they are offering programming, monthly inter-gym competitions and more.
