Athletes Heading to Madrid Championship for First Major Off-Season Competition

On Friday, the 2022 Madrid Championship will kick off the first major competition of the CrossFit Games off-season. The 3-day competition begins on Friday, September 9 and will feature a large 78-athlete men’s field and a 68-athlete women’s field. Add on some Games athletes competing on a team, and there will be plenty to keep an eye on this weekend.

The men’s field is headlined by Lazar Dukic, a two-time CrossFit Games veteran and 8th place finisher at this year’s Games. Dukic is joined by Travis Mayer, 18th at the 2022 CrossFit Games, Guillaume Briant, 26th at the Games, and Giorgos Karavis, who finished 37th this year.

While those four will likely be competing for spots on the podium, several other CrossFit Games veterans will be looking to make a splash. Adrian Mundwiler along with fan favorites Bronislaw Olenkowicz and Elijah Muhammad will likely be in the mix come Sunday.

On the women’s side, 12th place finisher at the 2022 CrossFit Games, Emma McQuaid, appears to be favorite. But she will be challenged by some new names looking to make an impact this year.

Athletes like Anikha Greer, Aimee Cringle, Manon Angonese, Emma Tall, Marie Robin and Lena Richter will also likely be in contention. Angonese and Greer both qualified for the Rogue Invitational. Richter is competing as an individual after competing on CrossFit Oslo’s team the past two seasons, where they took 2nd both years behind CrossFit Mayhem. And then you have Cringle, Tall and Robin who should in the mix.
