How P-Score Would Have Changed the Women’s Leaderboard at Rogue Invitational

The scoring system for the Rogue Invitational is as simple as it gets. First place gets 100 points, 2nd place gets 95, 3rd gets 90…and so on until last place earns just 5 points. The gap between every place is five points, regardless of whether you beat the person by one minute or a fraction of a second.

Tyler Watkins, creator of the P-Score, recalculated the Rogue Invitational leaderboard based on the P-Score and some of the changes are quite interesting.

The Podium

The women’s podium was Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr, Laura Horvath and Arielle Loewen. The gap between Horvath and Loewen was 220 points using the Rogue scoring. While Tia and Laura didn’t really moved with P-Score, Alex Gazan would actually move onto the podium, ahead of Loewen.

Migala

Gabi Migala suffered a torn Achilles Saturday night during Event 6, The Duel IV. Migala was in 2nd place at the time and after not accumulating points from the final three events on Sunday she dropped to 8th place overall.

However, with the P-Score Migala would have actually not slipped so far down the leaderboard. She would have finished in 5th place had P-Score been implemented.

Negative Scores

The unique thing about P-Score is that if you are far off the pace from the event winner and the “midpoint” athlete (the average of 10th & 11th at Rogue), you can actually receive negative points during an event.

At Crash CRUCIBLE, the decision was made to limit negative scores to less than -10. That was also made due to the fact of the gap between the top talent (i.e. Colten Mertens and those near the bottom of the leaderboard).

For Rogue, however, Tyler did not put bumpers on the negative scores. Thus, there were occasions where athletes suffered major setbacks. This, obviously, had some major impacts to the hypothetical P-Score leaderboard.

Notable Negative P-Scores:
Sydney Wells, E4, -407.07
Haley Adams, E4, -388.40
Danielle Brandon, E3, -176.85
Haley Adams, E3, -119.32
Dana Paran, E1, -55.58
Emma McQuaid, E9, -46.59
Tayla Howe, E9, -46.59
Sydney Wells, E2, -44.98

In fact, Sydney Wells and Haley Adams’ negative scores were so impactful that they finished with negative points for the entire competition.

Overall Leaderboard

While there would be shifts to the leaderboard, including the podium, P-Score does not materially change the placements. The biggest change was Sydney Wells moving from 14th to 19th by using P-Score. Haley Adams would have dropped four spots and Danielle Brandon three places.

Emma McQuaid and Taylor Williamson would have benefitted by four and three spots, respectively.
