“…withdrawing is what makes the most sense,” shared Alex Gazan Sunday morning. A month ago after winning the NorCal Classic and securing her spot to the 2025 CrossFit Games, Gazan and her husband were in a serious car accident. Gazan would end up breaking her fibula (aka leg) in the accident.
In the days following the accident, Gazan said she still had hopes to recover quick enough to compete the first weekend of August.
However, this morning, Gazan shared that she will be withdrawing from the 2025 CrossFit Games.

Man this post stings to write…after my accident I was hoping to be able to participate in the CrossFit Games knowing that I wouldn’t be my best but to enjoy the experience and the community. I envisioned being able to “train” at least for a few weeks and it turns out that just wasn’t realistic.
While my recovery is making great progress, it’s just not enough to get me to and through the Games in a safe manner. Justin and I agreed that for my health and longevity withdrawing is what makes the most sense.
Thank you to everyone who’s been so kind and supportive through this journey! I will still be at the Games as a spectator and am gonna make the most of being apart of the community and am looking forward to connecting with yall.
With Gazan stepping aside, her spot to the CrossFit Games will go to the next athlete from the NorCal Classic. Carolyne Prevost, who finished 3rd at NorCal, will join Hattie Kanyo as the two women who will represent NorCal at this year’s CrossFit Games.
As for Gazan, her next competition is the World Fitness Project Tour Stop 2 in Mesa, Arizona, beginning on August 29. It is unclear if Gazan will be ready to go by then. Gazan won Tour Stop 1 in May.
