The last two events of the 2018 CrossFit Regionals have been released for the individual competitors. Day 1 and Day 2 events were released earlier. In a similar theme to previous years, Sunday kicks off with a chipper followed by a fast event, this year heavy thrusters and rope climbs.
Event 5 finally brings back the dumbbells and, to a degree, the old 50’s workout format from 2014. The chipper features 50 handstand push-ups, 50 toes-to-bar, 50 calorie on the Assault Bike, 50 dumbbell box step-overs, 50-ft right arm dumbbell overhead lunge followed by a 50-ft left arm dumbbell overhead lunge. The dumbbells are the same weight as last year, 70/50.
Dave Castro shared a video of former CrossFit Games veteran Stacie Tovar testing Event 5. In the video, Tovar is seen working through the dumbbell box step-overs and it rough!

The final event is similar to the 2016 final regional event. This year, however, the thrusters are quite a bit heavier. At 155 pounds for the men and 105 pounds for the women, the 16-12-8 rep scheme will prove just enough that the athletes will need to go unbroken to stay in the competition. Expect this one to be a mad dash to the final 8 thrusters.
In 2016, athletes did 21-15-19 of 95-pound thrusters and 3-2-1 of legless rope climbs. This year, the thrusters are 16-12-8 and the rope climbs are 4-3-2. The other difference is this year’s event ends with thrusters whereas the rope climb was the final movement in 2016.
So those are the six events for the 2018 Regional competition. The barbells are back, but similar to last year there is no one-rep max event. Instead the heavy weight is a cumulative effect in Linda and the amount of volume with the snatches in Event 4 and thrusters in Event 6.

All of the team events are expected to be released today. Regionals begin next week, May 18.
