Gabriela Azevedo Failed Drug Test at 2025 Age-Group CrossFit Games

Gabriela Azevedo finished in 5th place in the Masters 45-49 year-old division at the 2025 CrossFit Games. However, the Brazilian athlete failed an in-competition drug test on Sunday afternoon. Azevedo’s sample tested positive for Oxandrolone and its metabolites.

Azevedo did not appeal the results and has received a four-year sanction from August 24, 2025 through August 24, 2029.

Azevedo has qualified and competed at the CrossFit Games as a Masters athlete four times since 2021. Her best finish was this year where she took 5th place in her age group.

It does appear that Azevedo was made aware of her failed drug test on September 21. In a post created by her partner and collaborated with Azevedo, the caption read:

Every thing happens for a reasons.. And if some plans change, and we need to renew ourselves… reinvent.. It’s certainly going to be for the better!
What comforts and makes you safe is knowing that the port is safe, to the things that really matter, will never change and will always be on your side!
And that’s how it is me and you..

Despite being notified on September 21, Azevedo competed at the TCB this past weekend where she won the 45-49 year-old Masters division. While the TCB is not a sanctioned CrossFit event, the Brazilian competition partnered with Copa Sur to qualify the top 2 athletes from the elite division to the 2026 Semifinals.

The banned substance, Oxandrolone, appears to be a common substance used by Brazilian CrossFit athletes. Patricia Goncalves tested positive for Oxandrolone last year and Phablo Lima tested positive in 2022. Both are also from Brazil.

Azevedo’s sanction is the first from in-competition drug testing at any of the CrossFit Games this year.
