Guilherme Malheiros is back in the United States after his visa application was finally approved. Malheiros, originally from Brazil, has been living and training at CrossFit Mayhem in Cookeville, Tennessee, but after the Games this year he had to return home as he awaited approval of his visa application.
That process, however, took longer than he had hoped forced him to withdraw from the Rogue Invitational this past October. But his visa was just recently approved and Malheiros and his fiancé, Luciana Dal Agnol, traveled back to Cookeville.
Malheiros shared the news that he was back ‘home’ via an Instagram post on Sunday.
Malheiros is now back in the United States with an O1-A visa. This visa is for individuals who have “extraordinary ability” in science, education, business or athletics. The visa is good for up to three years and can be extended if Malheiros continues to compete in CrossFit.
Malheiros’ finance, however, only has B1/B2 visa which allows her to stay in the States for six months. Of course, if the two do get married between now and then, Dal Agnol would be able to apply for an O-3 nonimmigrant visa, which allow her to stay in the States as long as Malheiro’s visa is valid.
In speaking with Malheiros, he said he will have to go back to Brazil and compete at the Copa Sur Semifinal to qualify for the CrossFit Games. Malheiros has had good luck at the South American Semifinal the past two seasons. Last year, Malheiros ran away with 1st place in the Semifinal after winning the first three events of the competition.
