Yesterday, Dave Castro said that Jay Crouch was penalized for his Workout 1 video submission for two reasons. The first reason was that he only completed 19 of his 20 overhead squats during the first interval. The second was that Dave Castro said he edited his video submission by overlaying a timer on the screen.
Immediately after news broke on this, Nic Johnston, PRVN’s CEO, commented that what Dave Castro said was not true.

Then, a couple hours later, Jay Crouch shared a link to his unlisted video submission. The video, uploaded to YouTube on March 31, showed a timer on the wall. There was no evidence of a timer overlay.

You can see in the screenshot below the timer that is on the wall.

It is unclear what Castro was referring to when he said the video submitted by Crouch had a timer overlay, as clearly evidenced by the video below.
Â
The video that Jay Crouch shared matches his original submitted score of 5:46. It was uploaded at the close of the score submission window. The video also shows that he only did 19 of the 20 overhead squats. So it’s clearly the video that Crouch submitted…
That begs the question…was Dave Castro lying when he spoke about the timer overlay? Or was he confusing Crouch with Ilse Boevink who did edit her timer? At this point, it appears the ball is in Castro’s court to clarify his statement regarding the claim that Crouch edited his video.
