A year after qualifying for his first appearance at the CrossFit Games, Ruan Potgieter is out for the 2025 CrossFit Games season. Potgieter shared that he partially tore a ligament in his ankle while competing at the Pretoria ThrowDown this past weekend.
Potgieter’s injury occurred while coming down stairs at the Voortrekker Monument during one of the events.Â
Potgieter, who qualified out of the African Semifinal, is obviously disappointed in having to take a year off to rehab his ankle, but is looking forward to once again making a run at the CrossFit Games in 2026.
The injury also may be a “blessing in disguise” as Ruan and his wife, Jade, are expecting a baby in July.
