On Friday, it was announced that the Friday Night Lights event at Farrington Field would be a Field Sprint. Rest. 1,600-meter Run. That was all we knew for Event 6. The next day, however, Dave Castro shared a photo of a star-shaped sandbag created by Rogue Fitness.
Castro called it The Happy Star.
Then yesterday during his Week in Review, Castro shared that the inspiration behind the shape of the sandbag came from eating at Carl’s Jr., a fast food restaurant chain in the western United States. “One of my kids was eating those little nuggets…[from] Carl’s Jr. They have those little star nuggets,” said Castro. “And I looked at that I was like that’s a pretty good shape.”
Castro continued by saying he told Bill and Caity Henniger, owners of Rogue Fitness, that they need to make a happy star implement that’s “big and people can carry”. After pressing for a bit, Castro finally received a prototype to test.
And after testing, Castro said, “I’m excited for how we introduce it into the Games this year.”
Castro then turned to the weight of the Happy Star sandbag. In his Instagram post, “170 lb” was written on one of the corners of the sandbag. “That is not the weight. I don’t know what that number is, but that is not the weight so you can just ignore that, or continue to think that’s the weight and train with it at that weight,” shared Castro.
Regardless of the specific weight, it seems as though Castro has something up his sleeve that will make the Happy Star Sandbag a memorable implement of the 2024 CrossFit Games. The question is…what will it be?
