By the Numbers: The Barbell Spin Year in Review for 2024

It’s been a wild 12 months, full of ups and downs. And while 2025 is sure to bring us a lot to talk about, I figured it would be good to take a look back at 2024.

Before I get into the numbers, I want to thank all of you who have gotten your CrossFit news from The Barbell Spin. Whether that was reading articles, watching THE SPIN every Wednesday night or engaging with my posts on Instagram, your support is very much appreciated.

The Barbell Spin’s Year in Review, by the Numbers

In 2024, there were 501 articles published on TheBarbellSpin.com. Of that, I personally wrote 481 of those!

And, of course, there were a few others who contributed throughout the year (Tyler, Pedro, Rodrick, Grant, Janette, Rich and Matt).

But we didn’t write those articles to go unread…and you didn’t disappoint. You popped over to TheBarbellSpin.com 6 million times to read one of those articles!

As for what were the most-read articles of the year, here are the top 10…

1. Athletes Will Receive Uniforms for CrossFit Semifinals
2. LMNT Caught Up in Salty Maltodextrin Controversy
3. 348 Athletes Receive Penalty Following Video Review of Workout 1
4. Mayra Brandt, Affiliate Owner and Masters CrossFit Games Veteran, Passed Away
5. Individual Quarterfinals Scores are In; Video Review Underway
6. PFAA Calls for Dave Castro to be Removed from the CrossFit Games’ Sport Team
7. Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr, Brooke Wells Fail to Complete 24.3
8. Rogue’s New Qualifying System Updated to Include Results from 2024 CrossFit Games
9. Katrin Davidsdottir Out for 2024 CrossFit Games Season
10. CrossFit Sends Email to CrossFit Games Attendees Regarding Financial Grant from Texas

Moving to YouTube, THE SPIN went live Wednesday night 51 times.

Also in 2024, SPINCAST was born. From getting a booth inside Vendor Village at the CrossFit Games to almost getting canceled while watching the United Grid League championship, John, Tyler & Spin gave our own ‘unique’ commentary while watching the competitions with you. Oh, and we woke up at 3am to watch the Strongwomen compete at the Rogue Invitational.

We also hosted the 100 Bar-Facing Burpee challenge between Colten Mertens and Jake Berman. Never doing something like that, we somehow pulled it off and got both to start at the same time.

In total, The Barbell Spin YouTube channel generated 1.3 million views that consumed 269,600 hours of your life!

The channel started the year with 3,900 subscribers. We added over 5,100 new subscribers and now have 9,035.

Also, I want to thank all of those who are members of the YouTube channel. Tbird, Melanie Hodge, Shelly Young and Julia Brandon (yes, that Julia Brandon!) were members the entirety of 2024.

We even tried something new outside of the CrossFit space. Tyler and John launched Bettin’ With The Boys, a show highlighting their bets on NCAA and NFL football. They also brought it Jason who gave insights into NBA betting.

And we must not forget Instagram…

The Barbell Spin Instagram account began 2024 with 49,000 followers. Over the course of 12 months and 870 posts, we added over 28,000 new followers.

I also created The Barbell Spin News Alerts Broadcast channel on Instagram where 2,700 of you get a message sent directly to your DM so that you don’t have to rely on the Instagram algorithm to get you breaking news.

If you aren’t signed up for that and you don’t want to miss anything, I highly recommend signing up for that.

Last but not least, I decided to start up a daily newsletter…The Afternoon Spin.

Like it didn’t have enough on my plate, The Afternoon Spin condenses all the news into one succinct email in the afternoon (duh!) to catch you up on the happenings throughout the day. It’s perfect if you don’t use Instagram or are too busy to scroll during the day.

Over 1,000 people are already receiving their Afternoon Spin.

If you would like to subscribe, you can sign up in the form below…

Once again, thank you for all of your support. Whether its reading articles, watching us talk nonsense every Wednesday night or anything in between, I appreciate it.

Now it’s time to see what’s in store for 2025…
