In a video released today, Tia-Clair Toomey shared that she injured her back during training in the weeks leading up to the 2022 CrossFit Games. The injury was so bad that Toomey and her husband/coach Shane Orr were not sure if she was going to be healthy enough to actually compete!
As we all know, Toomey was able to compete at the Games where she would go on to win her record-breaking 6th consecutive CrossFit Games title.
Toomey wouldn’t go into details of her injury, she is just now getting back into the gym after taking a month off to recover from training and the Games. She said she is taking things easy and will actually take advantage of the off-season for the first time in several years.
This will be the first time in years that Toomey’s off-season has not been overfilled with competitions or weightlifting or bobsledding in years. From the switch to Sanctionals, COVID, competing in Olympic Weightlifting and most recently attempting to join the Australian bobsled team, Toomey’s off-seasons didn’t quite look like an off-season.
This year appears to be different. Of course, Toomey will be heading down to Australia to compete on a team with Brooke Wells and Elle Turner at the Down Under Championship. Orr, Toomey and the PRVN team will also be in Austin, Texas, for the Rogue Invitational, although it is unclear if Toomey will compete this year.
But what about 2023? Toomey doesn’t quite fully commit to going for her 7th Games title, but it sure seems like that is her plan. Take some time and hear from Toomey and Orr themselves.
