Remember CrossFit’s Worldwide Rankings? The ones that have been used the past two seasons to determine how many athletes from each Semifinal qualify for the CrossFit Games. Well, they have not been updated to include the 2024 CrossFit Games.
In 2023, the worldwide ranking were updated on August 8, just two days after the Fittest on Earth were crowned.
It has now been 71 days since the 2024 CrossFit Games.
Of course, the 2024 CrossFit Games were tarnished by Lazar’s tragic death. On top of that, many athletes withdrew following the decision to continue with the competition, including Jeff Adler and Laura Horvath.
Both Adler and Horvath were atop the worldwide rankings following this year’s Semifinals.
With the pending investigation into Lazar’s death, the PFAA’s demands and lack of clear direction for next year’s competitive season, there are plenty of reasons why CrossFit has focused on the worldwide rankings.
But on top of that, assigning points based on the official leaderboard probably creates controversy as those who chose to not continue in the competition are “penalized”. But on the other hand, if there is a modification to the assigned points, it could penalize those who chose to continue with the competition.
So what should CrossFit do? Should they even continue the worldwide rankings?
Then add in the rumors that are swirling that the 2025 CrossFit Games season could look drastically different than what we have seen the previous three years. Does that play into any of this?
Stay tuned…
