Three athletes who competed at the 2024 Masters CrossFit Games have tested positive for banned substances…so far. Jamie McGarva and Shawn Ramirez both competed in the men’s 50-54 year-old age division while Jonathan Edel was in the men’s 40-44 division.
Following Edel’s sanction, Dave Lipson made a post on Instagram asking the question, “Should the Masters rules change? Or are you more interested in watching the low T Games?”
Now, if you watched Andrew Hiller’s original video about Edel from right after the Masters Games you would know that Edel was following ThundrBro programming at one point based on his (now deleted) Instagram page.
First, it’s interesting that Lipson used a Morning Chalk Up post for his statement. I didn’t know they covered failed drug tests. Find the post about McGarva or Ramirez…I’ll wait.
Second, as Hiller mentions in the comments of the post, it’s interesting that Lipson would weigh in following Edel’s sanction. Does Lipson’s post suggest that he knew about Edel’s PED usage? Did he help Edel attempt to cycle off? Or is it simply just asking a question about what the Masters competition should look like in the future?
Lipson has been accused of using steroids or other PEDs in the past, most notably by Hiller himself. The video was in response to Lipson saying he’s only used hormone replacement therapy (HRT).
Now back to Lipson’s original question. It’s interesting that he brings up the question about Edel tested positive for more than just HRT. Edel was on Anastrozole and GW501516, in addition to exogenous steroids.
Maybe I’m reading too much into it? But maybe not?
