Predicting a CrossFit Open workout is nearly impossible. Dave Castro likes to keep us guessing thanks to his cryptic social media posts. So far, we only have a couple hints to what Castro has in mind.
Let’s recap what we “know” so far.
- The Open will feature dumbbells for the first time…and Rogue Fitness is still sold out of the 50-pound and 35-pound dumbbells. We checked and they are supposed to be back in stock on Wednesday or Thursday. But will it be too late?
- Open Announcement Match-ups
- It won’t feature handstands on a tower of dumbbells!
So we have almost nothing to go on to predict 17.1 at this point. But that won’t stop us (and almost everyone else) from making their own guesses.
We reached out to several CrossFit Games veterans to see what they think they see on Thursday. Feel free to add your predictions in the comments below.
Patrick Vellner
Something long and engine-oriented judging by the athletes chosen. Maybe rowing, dumbbell thrusters and muscle-ups.
Joseph Guesnier
Something like 14.1 with dumbbell snatches. [Editor’s Note: 14.1 was a 10-min AMRAP of 30 Double-Unders and 15 Power Snatches]
Cassidy Lance
I hate predicting because Dave never gives you what you expect/hope/want. I’ll just do it and give my best! I think it will be something long again! Maybe 18 minutes.
Tennil Reed
I would say it’s going to be a long workout due to Sam Briggs doing the Open announcement. Besides that, it could be anything. So I’ll just say…
18-min AMRAP:
Burpees (same # each round)
TTB (same # each round)
OHS (ascending weights, but same # of reps each round)
Travis Williams
Longer couplet with simple movements that won’t be very fun.
Dani Horan
I honestly don’t try to predict any of the workouts. I feel it’s a waste of energy. I focus on making sure I’m ready for anything and controlling what I can control.
