Hattie Kanyo Needs MRI for Shoulder Injury; Will Miss In-Affiliate Semifinals

The road to the CrossFit Games for Hattie Kanyo won’t be through In-Affiliate Semifinals. Kanyo will not participate in the online Semifinals this weekend due to a shoulder injury.

Kanyo, who made her rookie debut at the CrossFit Games last year, suffered a shoulder injury while competing at TYR Wodapalooza in January. She would end up withdrawing before the final event.

Despite the injury, Kanyo finished 95th in the world in the CrossFit Open, thereby earning her the ability to attempt to qualify for the 2025 CrossFit Games.

However, Kanyo’s shoulder injury has not improved and is now looking to get an MRI for a diagnosis. To help cover costs, a GoFundMe has been set up by Camille Chapman. So far $1,150 CAD has been raised.

Kanyo is hoping to get a clear diagnosis so she can make a plan to be ready to compete at the NorCal Classic in June.

Kanyo is not the only top athlete on the women’s side who will be sitting out this weekend. Alex Gazan and Emily Rolfe will also take the weekend off. However, neither are injured.

Instead, Gazan and Rolfe are skipping online Semifinals due to the congested competition schedule. Both women will compete in the World Fitness Project’s Tour Event 1 next weekend. Rolfe is slated to follow that up the following week at the TFX Invitational.

After the WFP, the next time we will see Gazan on the competition floor will be at the NorCal Classic. And should Rolfe not qualify for the Games at TFX, she has also received a special invite to NorCal.

So there is a possibility that all three women (Kanyo, Gazan and Rolfe) are in northern California the first weekend of June to fight for just two qualifying spots to the CrossFit Games. And that doesn’t include others who will be fighting for their ticket as well.
